Starting a podcast on a budget in 2025

How to Create a Podcast for Two People on a Budget in 2025

Starting a podcast can often seem like a daunting task, but if you’re eager to share your voice with the world, it’s much easier—and more affordable—than you might think. If you’re planning to start a podcast for two people on a budget, look no further! In this post, we’ll detail our experience creating the "Dishy Dads" podcast, which focuses on the theme of “Two Chefs, One Podcast,” using minimal resources and maximizing creativity.

Step 1: Get the Right Equipment

One of the best parts about starting a podcast in 2025 is that technology is accessible and affordable. Here’s what we used to set up our podcast:

1. Tripod – We found a sturdy tripod on Amazon for just £1, which was essential for stabilizing our recording device and ensuring quality video for our YouTube channel.

2. Microphones 🎙️ – We purchased two microphones that plug directly into our iPhones for only £14. These microphones provide impressive sound quality and allow us to record high-quality audio without breaking the bank.

3. App Subscription – To make our editing and audio management smooth, we subscribed to the Detail app’s premium account at £40 a year. This investment has significantly improved our production quality and efficiency.

Another great app I found that I can recommend especially for remote interview podcasting was RiversideFM

And Riverside YouTube channel gives you loads of tutorials on setting up a podcast

Step 2: Plan Your Content

Before hitting the record button, it’s crucial to plan your content. We established a clear theme for "Dishy Dads," centering on culinary discussions and experiences. With six episodes already created, we’ve explored various topics, from cooking tips to funny anecdotes. Planning your content will keep your episodes focused and engaging for listeners.

For us ‘ the Dishy Dads ‘ aims to focus on our experience as two chefs , two dads - talking about our lives in the catering industry , balancing lives as dads and work. As well as aiming our content at dads that love to cook !

Step 3: Recording and Editing

With the right equipment at hand, it's time to record! Here are a few tips to ensure a smooth recording process:

- Choose a Quiet Environment : Find a noise-free location to minimize background sounds.

We ( the dishy dads ) have been lucky to get a space at Jay’s work place , Edison’s in Southampton - an empty office gave us a great place to start but we defo want to find a permanent space that we can decorate and make a bit more sound proof.

- Test Your Setup : Run a few test recordings to adjust your audio levels and ensure everything is functioning correctly.

- Edit Your Recordings : Use the Detail app not just for recording but also for editing. Trim any unnecessary segments and enhance sound quality as needed.to make the Dishy dad podcast easy we aim not to edit to much and just add an intro and outro , the detail app has built in AI to cut between each person talking , this saves hours of editing

Step 4: Distributing Your Podcast

After completing the editing, it’s vital to distribute your podcast to reach a broader audience. We successfully uploaded "Dishy Dads" to popular platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts, allowing our content to gain traction.

Additionally, we created a YouTube channel for visual content related to our podcast. Sharing your episodes on various platforms increases your visibility and attracts more listeners.

The app detail give you a great edit to upload your video podcast to YouTube , YouTube have said that 2025 is a great year to start a podcast as this is a year they really want to promote the podcast element of the platform

We downloaded a free media converter which turns your detail video into an mp3 for audio upload

Spotify has an app called creators and this is where you can upload you audio podcast and from there you can share it to Apple podcast platform

For your cover art canva is a great place to start or there are loads of people on fivver that can do it if you are happy to pay a fee for the service

Step 5: Welcoming Your First Guest

As you grow your podcast, you may want to expand by introducing guests. Having a clear structure for your guest interviews is essential for maintaining the flow of the conversation. Prepare questions ahead of time and consider what you want your listeners to gain from the episode with your guest. We are still working on how to do this , so watch this space , we think there is away of doing it with detail , so tune in to ‘ The Dishy Dads ‘ here to see how that goes
