Make Krispy kreme donuts at home !!

I think we can all agree Krispy Kreme donuts rock !! so when i set out to make donuts at home for the kids , these donuts were up there as the bench mark … especially with that bloody sweet lightly crisp vanilla glaze

i purchased myself a ring donut cutter from amazon , it wasn’t expensive but they must have posted it second class post on a slow boat from china and it took about a month to arrive ( so watch out for this , if you are getting one ) , but on the bright side this gave me a few weeks to perfect a donut recipe that hit the spot.

so no mucking about ( like a lot of blogs , where you have to scroll for half a day to get to the recipe ) lets get to the recipe and method now so you can start enjoying delish donuts

The Recipe

222g egg

20g fast acting dry yeast

18g vanilla

18g salt

110g butter

424g warm milk

156g castor sugar

  • Add the sugar, vanilla and yeast to the warm milk

  • Place the flour and salt into a mixer

  • Using a hook attachment add the warm milk mixture and soft butter

  • Start mixing and add one egg at a time

  • Mix until the the dough becomes shiny and forms a smooth dough around the hook

  • Remove from the machine and cover

  • Place in a warm place to prove for 1 hour or it doubles in size

  • Flour a table top and turn out the dough , dust the top with flour and roll out to 2 cm deep

  • Flour the donut cutter and stamp out the donuts ( BONUS - you can deep fry the little balls from the middle straight away and dust with cinnamon sugar as an instant treat for the fruits of your labour )

  • Place the donuts on baking parchment in a deep try and cover with cling film and allow to prove again till double in size

  • Heat your oil to 180c

  • Lift and gently lower your donut into the hot oil ( don’t over load your fryer , give your donut plenty of space

  • Fry for one minuit on each side and lift out of the oil and drain ( if you want to dust in cinnamon sugar now is your time place the donut straight in the sugar )

  • Once the donut is cooled dunk the the donut in the vanilla glaze lift out and allow to crisp up
